If you aren’t from Monroe County, you may not know the name Eric Hazuda, but you should.
Eric is our Monroe County Board Chair. In fact, Eric serves on several boards in Monroe County—MACA, BGCOR, Kiwanis, and more—really too many to name.
But he’s so much more than just a Board Member. For example, each month, after the Kiwanis meeting, Eric grabs a broom and sweeps the sidewalks at Donna’s Old Towne Café … just because he wants to. Eric is also the reason that our Madisonville Unit’s playground was fixed … free of charge! In 2019, Eric was in the Monroe County Chamber’s Leadership Class. As part of the requirements, Eric and his classmates had to come up with a group project to give back to the community. He knew that our Monroe club’s playground was not safe or operational, so he convinced the group to take on the playground as their project. And now our kids at that club have a great playground!
But the past few months have not been kind to Eric or his family. The struggles they’ve faced have turned their world upside down. It all started with life-threatening internal infections that came without warning and had doctors scratching their heads concerning the cause, resulting in multiple exploratory surgeries. Doctors have now determined that Eric has Pancreatic Pseudocysts, which is requiring multiple additional surgeries to try and correct the problem. However, there have also been multiple setbacks caused by the illness and during the recovery periods. Due to the severity of his medical situation and the treatment needed, Eric is having his surgeries at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
But the difficult news doesn’t stop there. While Eric was in surgery, his son, Penn, was diagnosed with Hypodiploid Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (also known as ALL). As would be expected, Eric’s wife, Jess, is struggling to navigate all of this horrific news that literally came just weeks apart, all while still trying to care for her husband and their two boys, Pryce & Penn.
In addition to his service on multiple boards, Eric owns his own business, a State Farm Insurance Agency that is now missing his leadership and guidance.
BGCOR’s Monroe County Board has taken up a collection to help financially support the Hazuda family through this terrible time in their lives, but more needs to be done. We’re asking our extended BGCOR family of supporters to consider helping the Hazuda family by clicking here. Every dime collected will be given directly to the Eric and Jess Hazuda.
On behalf of the entire BGCOR organization and the Hazuda family, thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity!
