BGCOR Wins Big at State Awards Ceremony

Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Tennessee Area Council recently awarded Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region with five of the highest awards given across the state.

Board and Staff members representing Boys & Girls Clubs from across the state of Tennessee come together each year to attend a state wide Tennessee Area Council Leadership Summit. This past August, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region (BGCOR) was strongly represented in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with 25 local board and staff members in attendance. This was the first time in several years that organizations were able to congregate in a public space in order to celebrate statewide success and induct influential leaders from across the state into the Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame.

“Due to the pandemic, we haven’t been able to get together with our colleagues from across the state in nearly three years,” stated Todd Farrell, Tennessee Area Council Chairman. “It was so wonderful to finally come together this past August to see our Boys & Girls Club family, affording us the chance to network and celebrate all the great things Boys & Girls Clubs has accomplished across the Southeast Region.”

Attendees have an opportunity to hear from a selection of dynamic and powerful speakers throughout this impactful training opportunity. This year was even more special to BGCOR as they were awarded five of the highest awards given across the state. Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Tennessee Area Council awarded BGCOR the “Tennessee Board Team of the Year Award 2022,” and Steve Hixson, BGCOR Board Member, was also awarded the “Tennessee Board Member of the Year Award 2022”. Ed and Karen Jacobs were also present and were recognized as one of two Tennessee statewide CARE Awards for all their heart and support. On the last day of the conference, BGCOR was called back on stage for a fourth time to be awarded the “Program Excellence as the Best Sports & Recreation Program in Tennessee 2022”. And to top off the final banquet ceremonies, Paul Willson, BGCOR Board Member, was officially inducted into the Tennessee Boys & Girls Clubs Hall of Fame!

Al Pierce, BGCOR Chief Volunteer Officer, stated, “I would like to show my appreciation and thanks to our strong local board leadership as they are the reason that our local Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region walked out of the 2022 Tennessee Area Council as the top organization in Tennessee to be associated with. You all represented our community with class.”
