Spectrum Internet has been a long time partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region (BGCOR), offering their support and services to the organization. Derrick Kinsey, President and CEO of BGCOR says, “This past week we held a community event where Charter Communications announced a program to provide high speed broadband to those in need.” Charter Communications generously provided a $1,500 donation to BGCOR, as they continue to serve the youth of Bradley County.
Charter Communications hosted an essay contest that several of the youth at BGCOR submitted an entry to. During the event, Spectrum/ Charter Communications announced the winner of the essay contest and announced their commitment to providing High Speed Broadband Internet to those in need within the Ocoee Region.
“Spectrum Internet Assist helps bring a whole new world of digital access and opportunity to low-income families and seniors,” said Zach Bates, Charter’s Director of Government Affairs in Tennessee. “It is an important next step in providing true high-speed connections to consumers who would otherwise continue to face a digital inequality in this country.” The need for expanding High Speed Broadband Internet in the Ocoee Region was echoed in the essays submitted by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region youth that shared the struggles many homes faced in 2020 when internet was limited, while learning was tailored for distance learning.
Further evidence of the investment into the Ocoee Region, Spectrum Internet donated to the BGCOR’s new Morelock YouthForce Center, which is held in the Bradley County Schools PIE Center. “We have such a wonderful partnership with Charter Communications over the past several years. They recently provided us with two new vocation trainings, Transfr VR headsets, allowing our youth the chance to explore several trade opportunities.,” says Kinsey. During the event Mayor Kevin Brooks, provided the essay contestants, and members of BGCOR’s Keystone Club an important surprise. “Mayor Brooks surprised our Keystone Club’s president with a key to the city because of their recent service projects and public intent to change the culture of teen behavior within our community. Spectrum’s event was amazing and very emotionally moving!” Kinsey added.
